well i found out what the problem was - they have two networks, one wasnt working and we were in the wrong area for the working one. So now i am in the right area!
updates on the last several days: On friday after updating the blog we went to Bright, which was recommended to us as a very pretty country town. Which it was, but they were having an annual hotrod getogether, and the roads were packed with noisy smelly hotrods~! the road to bright was lined with hotrodders, bikers, and other audience, sitting on the side of the road in their collapsible chairs. However, we managed to get a parking spot and had a wander round and a great icecream, and decided that Bright is a pretty town indeed!
Yesterday we headed for Jindabyne, up the snowy mts, and down, and up, through back roads and very windy roads. When we got to Kiandra, we stopped at a toilet stop, and came back to the car to find another subaru outback had driven in, straight over some tap spikes, and popped two of his tyres. After some discussion, we lent him our spare, which was just the same as his spare, and we went in tandem to adaminaby, where he could get a good enough tyre, and gave us our spare back. So we finally got in to Jindabyne at 6pm, very tired but with a warm glow from helping someone.
Today we didnt do the big drive we were planning - both tired, especially me. We just went up to Thredbo, saw a little more snow on the mtns, then came back to jindabyne for a yummy pizza and gloria jeans coffee for lunch. Have been having a necessary rest this afternoon! tomorrow we will head for cooma and the coast. WE plan to get to Roy and Berrices on tuesday night, and spend wednesday with them. As a change from hot rods there are motor bikes everywhere this weekend - some annual thing that has 4000 motorbikes in the area~!
