Day 21 - still waiting

Phone call today:

Still at Te Anau, waiting to see if the avalanches will go away so they can get through to Milford Sound. (Slept in till 9:30am) The avalanches are purposely set off, so they know when they'll happen ... there were 5 yesterday ... but then they have to wait till the road is clear. Will ask tomorrow morning, but if it's not clear then, they are starting to run out of time, and will probably have to miss it. They could go by plane to Milford Sound, then on the cruise, then plane back, but Barry is worried he'd get sick on the small plane, and not be able to enjoy any of it.

Te Anau is very quiet and very nice ... beautiful lake which is easy to walk near ... 360 degrees of mountains ... lower than some they've seen, but still definately mountains.

Today (after sleeping in), they went to a wildlife centre, which didn't have much wildlife, but had very nice parklands, then wandered round the shops (for 2.5 hours said Barry).

It's very cold at night, and they are experimenting trying to workout the right number of clothes.
